As a basic facility for future energy protection, smart grid and sustainable development of the Internet of Things, EC and EU member states have taken various actions, including policies and regulations, to actively stimulate the commercialization and application of smart meter technology within the EU. With the continuous increase of the penetration rate of smart meters in the EU, the penetration rate of smart meters in member countries averages more than 60%, and the EU Action Plan for the Popularization of smart meters has entered a sprint stage. The European WIMBEX R&D team, which is composed of industry and science and technology circles of several EU member states, has successfully developed "intelligent water meter" technology, modular production technology and series products by using mature intelligent meter technology, and has recently passed the evaluation and appraisal of the European Commission Expert Group.
The intelligent water meter technology and series products developed by WIMBEX R&D team can meet the actual needs of water production and consumption enterprises, water suppliers and distribution networks, and household consumers. Intelligent water meter, the production and consumption of water improvement are counted by T as by L, so as to enhance the awareness of water saving of consumers. Intelligent water meter realizes digital reading and data transmission, greatly reduces its own energy consumption (almost no power consumption), so the distribution network power supply for special rechargeable batteries. Real-time monitoring of intelligent water meter control in water supply network can automatically generate bills according to agreements reached between water suppliers and consumers. Household consumers can keep abreast of the accurate water use situation through the Internet, tablet computers or mobile phones.
At present, the R&D team is actively cooperating with the European Commission, member states, water suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and stakeholders to assist in drafting and formulating EU unified new water standards and legislative proposals based on consultation and practical needs. At the same time, the further development of intelligent measurement and application services of innovative technologies in the field of natural gas and thermal supply has been included in the future strategic research agenda (SRA) of the R&D team.
